Columbia, S.C. – Carolina Biologics, Make Startups, Thrive Data, and WaterUS were accepted as South Carolina Research Authority Member Companies. Carolina Biologics, Clemson Composite Center, Coastal Carolina University, GreenCape Health, Health Evolve, and Tandem Concepts received new grant funding.
All SCRA Member Companies receive coaching and access to SCRA’s Member Benefits and Startup Resources, can apply for grant funding, and have the potential to be considered for investment from SCRA’s investment affiliate, SC Launch Inc.
Carolina Biologics LLC was accepted as an SCRA Member Company and received a $25,000 Academic Startup Grant. The University of South Carolina-based life science startup is developing a new natural peptide approach called NMEG to treat heart failure. Their solution has fewer side effects, is a natural anti-inflammatory, and shows potential to prevent heart failure and reverse its effects.
Clemson Composites Center received a $57,000 Demonstration Grant. The Clemson University-based Advanced Manufacturing and Materials project is developing a novel carbon fiber rim manufacturing process that will improve strength, reduce waste, and avoid quality issues for Boyd Cycling. The process will be documented in a white paper explaining guiding principles of the design and implementation techniques for all composite manufacturers.
Coastal Carolina University received a $26,000 Demonstration Grant. The Coastal Carolina University-based Advanced Manufacturing and Materials project is South Carolina’s first NASA CubeSat Launch Initiative in collaboration with the NASA SC Space Grant Consortium. The project will develop small satellite research capabilities, beginning with ground satellite stations for receiving satellite communications.
GreenCape Health Inc. received a $50,000 Acceleration Grant. The Greenville-based life science startup has developed a product called the RheumApp, which is the first patient-reported outcomes platform built for rheumatology. RheumApp enables providers to better care for patients suffering from severe chronic diseases by integrating patient-reported symptom data into clinical care and decision making.
Health Evolve Technologies LLC received a $50,000 Demonstration Grant. The Columbia-based information technology company develops patient-centered technologies that provide comprehensive and simple tools. These tools position patients as partners and equip providers with the clinical insights needed for a personalized care experience.
Make Startups Inc. was accepted as an SCRA Member Company. The Aiken-based information technology startup is a workforce-approved training provider for entrepreneurial skills training in four states: Georgia, Colorado, South Carolina, and North Carolina. The program helps ensure that founders demonstrate the necessary skills and milestones required to launch and operate a new business.
Tandem Concepts Inc. received a $25,000 Startup Grant. The Charleston-based information technology company automates supply chain operations with its services, which include integrated dispatchers, credit pre-approvals, automated order entries, and instant bill reconciliation.
Thrive Data Inc. was accepted as an SCRA Member Company. The Charleston-based information technology startup has developed an AI-powered platform designed to streamline legal workflows for high-volume document analysis and management for personal injury and medical malpractice cases. Their platform automates time-consuming manual reviews by allowing users to search across thousands of legal documents to receive citation-backed answers in seconds while upholding strict HIPAA and data privacy standards.
WaterUS LLC was accepted as an SCRA Member Company. The Irmo-based Advanced Manufacturing & Materials startup is a spinout from the University of South Carolina that focuses on innovative water treatment solutions. Their technology provides sustainable water purifying solutions in the areas of water softening, desalination, and wastewater treatment, thereby improving the lives of customers and the environment.

Grant funding is made possible, in part, by SCRA’s tax credit program, the Industry Partnership Fund, and its contributions that fuel the state’s innovation economy. Contributors to the IPF receive a dollar-for-dollar state tax credit, making it an easy and effective way to help one of the fastest-growing segments of the South Carolina economy. Grant funding for Member Companies creates a direct, positive economic effect and job creation.
