SUSTAINMENT for AGING WEAPON SYSTEMS

The DoD Competitive Sustainment Program is committed to reducing the cost of aging weapon systems by reducing cycle times, improving the adaptability of the logistics supply chain and strengthening the industrial base. An SCRA-led supply chain program sponsored by the Office of Naval Research is improving the affordability of Navy weapons systems by increasing the efficiency of supporting supply chain networks. SCRA continues its emphasis on supply chain initiatives in both the Defense and commercial sectors. New supply chain initiatives are addressing approaches to optimize planning for engineering upgrades and the application of performance-based logistics to enhance Navy systems and programs. Led by SCRA and New Vectors, these initiatives have been recognized with several awards for excellence.

Sustainment for Defense

National Sustainment Technology Center

The Naval Air Systems Command and the Joint Council on Aging Aircraft have partnered with a consortium of defense companies, managed by SCRA, and the San Antonio Technology Accelerator Initiative to establish the National Sustainment Technology Center. The Center began operation by hosting a conference on the Cost of Aging DoD aircraft. The Center’s mission is to bridge the gap between research and the application of new and emerging technologies. The Center will be actively involved in identifying and evaluating new technologies and processes, validating capabilities, developing applications, and transitioning, tracking, and reporting the results to the sustainment community.
