SCRA Connects Small Business to Federal Program
SC Launch Company SensorTech Improves Quality of Life for Wounded Warriors

Charleston, SC - December 21, 2011 - SensorTech, an SCRA Technology Ventures' SC Launch company, recently received national recognition by the Department of Defense (DoD). SensorTech, a licensee of Clemson University basic research, was a key player in the Prosthetics and Orthotics Manufacturing Initiative, which won a Defense Manufacturing Technology Achievement Award at the annual Defense Manufacturing Conference in November. The award recognizes projects and teams that significantly impact the DoD, further manufacturing technology and ultimately benefit the Warfighter.

The Initiative improved the durability and comfort of prosthetics and orthotics, resulting in 50 percent lighter, more comfortable sockets with increased production, longer lifecycles and 40 percent cost reduction, ultimately benefiting our wounded men and women in uniform. SensorTech facilitated more durable and formable conductive polymer sensors that measure load, tension, pressure or vibration, resulting in a more comfortable fitting prosthetic for our Wounded Warriors.

"To receive this recognition was truly an honor for our company and our partners," said SCRA CEO Bill Mahoney. "Our efforts to improve prosthetics were advanced by the great technology developed by SensorTech, and it was also a win-win to advance this South Carolina-based emerging technology company through an SCRA-led federal applied research program."
