STANDARDIZING the SPARE PARTS PRODUCTION PROCESS

Institute for Solutions Generation

EMALL

ISG is providing material supply solutions that increase weapon system readiness and reduce operational costs.

There is a great deal to be gained by making the process of producing and delivering spare parts needed for DoD’s weapons systems more efficient. To manage such a daunting task requires a standardized methodology be employed. This is ISG’s primary focus: the development and application of ISO 10303—the Standard for the Exchange of Product model data, or simply STEP.

In fact, in the past few years ISG has become increasingly recognized as being the most prolific developer of STEP application protocols and toolsets for use by DoD in its weapon systems life cycle support activities. ISG is specifically expert in STEP-enabled machined, cast, and forged part manufacturing applications.

Our ongoing STEP-focused projects include:

• The Army Ground systems Integrated Lean Enterprise (AGILE) program, which employs STEP and STEP-based tools to integrate the Army’s organic industrial base into a harmonious manufacturing environment.

• The National Automotive Center’s Standardized Exchange of Product (N-STEP) program that is employing STEP for the acquisition of parts and assemblies for the Army’s ground combat and ground combat support systems.

• The Lean Munitions program, which is employing advanced ISO standards-compliant toolsets for facilitating the more timely and effective creation, distribution, use, and management of munitions-related design and manufacturing information.
